Conrad Mbewe answers this question (as an African pastor trying to motivate and mobilize his and other churches for missions). These are his observations about the church as a whole in Africa:
- We are still a receiving church.
- We think we are too poor.
- We lack African role models.
Praise God for the Ethiopians! I’m sure others are doing similar work somewhere, but this is specifically the work God is sending us to help in. But God has been at work for decades in southern Ethiopia, preparing through faithful SIM missionaries for just this task, a task for which they may actually have far more ability and resources than the Western church.
